Good wood shouldn’t go to waste. The Roanoke Wood Exchange helps local woodworkers swap usable lumber and find material for their next project.
Bring wood to earn exchange points, or come visit even if you don’t have wood to trade.
Ask about the Wood ExchangeWhat wood can I bring?
Wood should be dry, stable and free of metal or significant rot. Virginia hardwoods such as oak, walnut, cherry and maple are preferred; unusual species and pieces suitable for turning may also be accepted.
How are points calculated?
Points are based on board feet and species. Condition, size and exceptional figure can affect the final value. Points do not expire.
Do I have to bring wood?
No. If you’re just starting out, visit anyway. Donations of quality wood help the exchange support newcomers.
What species are available?
The exchange lists woods including black walnut, cherry, hickory, red and white oak, maple, sycamore and tulip poplar. Contact the shop for current availability.
